There's been a lot of conflict lately in cincinnati's punk scene over how best to deal with a small group of people ruining shows for everyone else and making the larger crowd uneasy and uncomfortable. I know I don't just speak for myself when I say that I'm tired of going to basement / living room / blue rock shows where I feel unwelcome and threatened by others there who have no other agenda than hurting people and laughing about it, calling us pussies and fags, turning our diy spaces into a battleground of macho bullshit vs. sanity. I hope those of us with some semblance of reason can come together on this and let all these motherfuckers know they're not welcome in our spaces as long as they continue to perpetuate this tension.

There's nothing wrong with drawing lines when people try to infiltrate cultures of resistance with nationalist, misogynistic, and pro-military bullshit. Our spaces should be a place for people to feel sheltered from the onslaught and hostility of the dominant culture, a place for us to help strengthen eachother's defenses against the poisoning of hierarchy. If we allow proponents of that same dominant culture free reign of our space, they will dominate it as they do all others, as is their stated desire and intent. If we refuse to defend ourselves, we will have nothing left but a perverted farce: fake diy, fake opposition, fake punk. I'll fucking die before I hand it over to them willingly.

you should read this, among many other things: FUCK YOU, HETERO.

NCTI Theft Prevention Course: Mandatory

Today, I had to sit through eight hours of "theft prevention" class as required by the terms of my probation. wow. We all had to discuss the theft offense we were charged with, etc. I learned so many interesting things. For instance, of the twenty-two people in the class, eight of the crimes committed were in some way Wal-Mart related. That's 36.36 %. Just over one third. I can't help but wonder just how much of the total theft committed in this area is at Wal-Mart.

I'm thinking of writing all this information, along with other writings, and hopefully additional articles, interviews and record reviews into a zine for local distribution here in cincinnati. let me know if you have any suggestions for content, or if you want to get your band reviewed.
